Tony Egginton
Mansfield District Council
Elected in October 2002, and then re-elected in 2007 and 2011, Tony Egginton is Mansfield’s first directly Elected Mayor. Tony’s primary aim is to regenerate and improve his home town, indeed his driving focus and passion has been the catalyst for many projects throughout the District.
However, Tony does not have a parochial view of Mansfield; he sees that it is part of the wider East Midlands region. He is concerned that regeneration permeates through the former coalfield areas and that the often overlooked poor areas have a voice that is heard; with its development being a priority to improve the lives of its citizens.
Tony is representative of the new breed of local leaders, being one of only eleven directly elected Mayors in the country; he is blazing a trail that the Coalition Government now want to emulate through more towns and cities in the UK.
