About Mansfield BID

Mansfield town centre is a town that is a business improvement district in area. The Business Improvement District (BID’s) concept was developed in Canada and brought over to the UK around 10 years ago.

A BID is a partnership between a local authority and the local business community that develops and takes forward projects and services that benefit the trading environment. They provide an investment in the local trading environment through the provision of added value services above and beyond the statutory duty of the local authority.

BID’s are brought in to effect following a ballot process of all businesses within a set boundary. These businesses vote on a 5 year plan to provide this added value provision by paying an additional levy on their ratable values, thus generating additional funds to be able to run the business plan and re invest into the town Centre through various projects. Following the first 5 years a further ballot takes place to decide on any further terms.

Mansfield BID was established in 2010 after a 5 week ballot process and generates on average a £290,000 levy revenue a year plus over a further £20,000 additional revenue from other streams. It is governed by 13 voluntary board members who represent various business sectors within the town from independent retailers, National retailers through to Leisure providers and finance/ services sector.

The Mansfield BID has 5 areas to its business plan and to date has completed some key achievements that both benefits the business on an individual level but also assists the town on a greater economic benefit.

Management of the Town Centre Website – 3900 hits per month – 98.2% increase of traffic from 2011 – 60% average are new visitors
